GRATEFUL for the New Year!

As 2006 comes to a grateful end, I say 'grateful' because for those of us enduring life-threatening hardships & hurts, betrayals & upheavals - some only known to Jesus, others being of 'public' display - we are Grateful for its end. In fact, we've prayed for its end!
I concede that for some, 2006 has been a good year, for others a very good year. And to God we are Thankful for this, even in the midst of our pain, we are mindful that as part of the Body, we must Rejoice in the Abundance of others, even if they know nothing of our lack, and trials, and pain. We take Comfort in knowing that as long as our Savior knows, and feels, and is touched - it is enough. Otherwise, how could we call ourselves Believers if we thought, acted, and reacted as the world does when trials do come?
So, now we look forward with Hope, and Faith, and Confidence that this new year, will truly be a 'new year', for us - as Believer's we did not go through, no the word is 'endure', the last 365 days for nothing! Even though we've come out with wounded spirits, shattered dreams, and broken promises (man's), we carry much more Priceless merchandise than those who have not struggled, nor hurt, nor lost, nor loved, nor cried, nor endured. A Virtual Warehouse?

One of the recent 'Transformation Awards' given by the FASTEN Network, went to FreshMinistries, Jacksonville Florida. And one of the key concepts mentioned, was the use of a "Virtual Warehouse" for the easy exchanges of goods (or even services, volunteers, etc.)... not unlike eBay... but for the non-profit world. Great concept we'll be looking into further. Ideas? Comments?

Many of us realize the need for these precious commodities, but at the moment we really don't yet have a great network in the Christian community for finding them. Sure, people can generally connect and stay in touch at IndyChristian.com, but we need much more than that. We need Christians actively working together to develop a mentoring network.

And thankfully, help is on the way. A key contact at this point, is Pastor James Carter, who's leading the charge to develop a mentor-recruiter program for IPS school mentors and for many other great organizations that need them desperately. For more information, visit 1000Mentors.com.

Many of you know that at the 'heart of Indy' is the Unleavened Bread Cafe. And there, among other things, we welcome anyone to come in off the street or from wherever, and learn computing skills... and especially how to surf the internet & do email... especially for networking and obtaining a job. Increasingly we're hoping to work toward collaborating more & more with Jobs Partnership (Minister Doug Hairston).

It's an outstanding ministry that is badly needed in our city.

Here's a list of some centers in the city -- such as Jobs Partnership -- that help with jobs-training... and do some computer training as a part of that effort.

We'll talk some more soon... and notably about which ones have some of our solid Christians involved.

Food pantries feel the pinch

Two of Carmel's five food pantries and two of Fishers three agencies are desperate for donations, especially canned goods, as limited supplies continue to dwindle.

"We are really having a tough time keeping these people going, and the need's getting greater, too," said Nancy Chance, president of Good Samaritan of Hamilton County, which oversees 29 food pantries throughout Hamilton County.

Chance said the solution is simple.

"If everyone would take a bag of food to their local pantry, we might be able to turn this around..."

Indianapolis physician sees treating the downtrodden as his calling

"Dr. Peter Kim doesn't put much stock in image. If he has a white doctor's coat, it's well-hidden. His clothes and scuffed shoes would be at home in a thrift store, and on Indianapolis streets, he's simply called, "Hey, Doc."

For the last four years, Kim, 33, Indianapolis, has assisted a clientele to whom his first question is often, "Where did you sleep last night?"
